Autumnal Reflection
I.
the still air thickens
then somewhere beyond sound
it thins
silence merges with light
creating a blue arc
far above deciduous trees
whose golden multitudes
fall effortlessly
scattered light gleams
momentarily
but soon loss mingles
with weighty matter, and
we step heavily upon memory
extinguishing glory
II.
seduced by reflective light
the fallen ride breath into human form
essentially amorphous, they balk at limitation
and their discomfort is our disease
III.
in the divine economy
where leaves equal fallen angels
there is the enduring significance of trees
the challenge
to doubt, to trust
to rebel or be
reborn
