P. 77
Psalm 41
Blessed are those whose actions are insightful
when addressing vulnerable souls;
the Eternal rescues them in the day of trouble,
the Guardian protects and keeps them alive;
they are – and will be – content on the land.
You do not surrender them to their adversaries.
You, our Guardian, strengthen them as they languish.
You bring healing.
And I, I said, Holy One, be gracious to me;
I have sinned against you – redeem me.
With malice my adversaries wonder
when I will die, and my name disappear.
If people come to see me, they utter empty phrases
while their hearts meditate on mischief
that they go out and tell to everyone.
All who hate me whisper, devising evil for me.
They decided that death’s shadow has overwhelmed me,
that I will never again rise up from where I lie.
Even my closest companion, whom I trusted,
who shared bread with me, has betrayed me.
But you, my Guardian, be gracious to me,
raise me up so that I may return.
I know you are pleased
that my adversary has not triumphed over me.
You hold me so that I might have integrity,
you keep me infinitely close to you.
Blessed be the Holy One, the Godde of our ancestors,
from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen.
