P. 75
Psalm 40
I have been hopefully expectant –
the Eternal inclines toward me,
heeding my cry.
Godde raises me from depths of desolation,
from a muddy mire –
setting my feet on solid ground,
establishing my progress.
The Creator inspires a new song –
a hymn praising Godde's Spirit
sounds within my mouth.
Many see and revere Godde,
they trust the Creator.
Oh, happy mortals who trust the Eternal –
who are neither insolent nor allied to falsehood!
Creator, your world is marvellously designed.
You accomplish much, your wonders
and your thoughts outnumber us –
You give us ears to listen
You have desired neither sacrifices nor gifts.
You have not requested burnt or sin-offerings.
I said,`Look, I have come,'
My life is the page of a book still being written
I desire your approval, Godde,
Your law is written deep inside me.
In great assemblies I have proclaimed
your nearness, your integrity.
