The Garden of Delight
On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds
of fruit, producing its fruit each month.
Revelation 22:2b
Days have passed
perhaps even those moments mortals call decades.
Each day a new creature to admire, name.
This day a large bird sashays through the garden,
its chevrons of feather moonlight quivering.
Each sunrise,
new leaves and blossoms,
in tantalizing color
incarnate joy.
This tree
produces delectable fruits in turn.
On this one tree,
tiny conifer clusters of star-flowers
transition slowly – replaced by
elliptical garnet pendants
dangling from leafy branches –
as they mature smaller orbs reflect an apricot sunset.
Ready for plucking, the fragrance
of their one time ruby-edged petals
is already a pale memory.
