Your spirit hovers above the deep
you contemplate the beautiful intention; you utter the first fiat.
Then destructive impulses whisper intricately fabricated lies
haunting mortals with their lingering, deflating hisses –
and your spirit glints on the hastily-cast bronze of the raised serpent.
Then you, too, are lifted up. You rise slowly, painfully pinned against rough wood.
You rise mysteriously from descent among the dead caught in a divine caesura.
From the Mount of Olives, you rise above our impoverished queries
as your creative imagination circumvents the satanic misdirection …
Even now, you keep alive the beautiful intention …
