Our Story

In the beginning, when we met in the amazing loft space of nota bene* on Park Avenue, there were no chairs, so we'd tell people to bring a lawn chair or floor cushion... Since then we’ve moved a few times to places with chairs but we’ve kept the name.

There are various wonderful literary evenings held in Montreal and we offer yet one more chance to gather and celebrate the power and grace of the creative voice.

We are always pleased when we are joined by guests who have made a name for themselves in the literary and/or musical world of Quebec and beyond, but we feel we have a special mandate to encourage those poets, writers, and artists who are relatively unknown, for they too have distinctive and powerful voices to share with us.

To this end we offer "open mike" time so that people can exercise their individual voices. It's often in reading to others that we best hear ourselves.
